  • 17 February, 2010 AIDICO EXTENDS ITS FACILITIES TO GIVE A BOOST TO NANOTECHNOLOGY

The Construction Technology Institute, AIDICO, is extending its facilities with a new building in order to carry out research on nanotechnology applied to construction materials and the habitat. The building is based in the Technology Park, in Paterna, and will take in technical equipment and laboratories for development work in research activities, and for encouraging innovation related to nanotechnology, especially activities developed by the RENAC network.

AIDICO’s high degree of specialisation in nanotechnology research lines meant it was necessary to adapt a building specifically focused on developing these kinds of projects. In this sense, it is worth highlighting that the new facilities will help to boost AIDICO’s position, on an international scale, with respect to R&D work into materials for use in the construction sector.

Investment made to adapt the building for Project development was funded by IMPIVA enabling a pilot plant to be revamped in order to install a reactor for the synthesis of nanoparticles.
AIDICO’s new building will foreseeably be opened before the summer and take in a large number of activities developed by RENAC.

The Network for Application of Nanotechnologies in Materials and Products for Construction and the Habitat (RENAC) was set up in 2004 and is made up of eight REDIT Technology Institutes and fourteen research groups of known prestige from Valencian universities (Universidad Jaime I, Universidad de Valencia, Universidad Politécnica de Valencia y Universidad de Alicante). The network is financed by regional funds from the Regional Department of Industry, Trade and Innovation and from the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

As a RENAC coordinator, AIDICO presents the fourteen research lines in which more than 20 groups of researchers work in the Region of Valencia. In this respect, it is worth pointing out that results obtained are to be used in a diverse range of fields, such as: energy efficiency, ecological cements, self-cleaning coatings, self-repairing paints, intelligent textiles, new coatings and surface treatments, fireproof plastics, structural diagnostics and biocide active varnishes.

AIDICO, which belongs to the Network of Technology Institutes from the Region of Valencian (REDIT), is driven by the Regional Department of Industry, Trade and Innovation.
