Industrial Stones (Aggregates, Natural Stone)

Work in this area deals with the development of new systems of characterization, extraction-production procedures and the development of multi-functional products starting from raw materials, as well as controlling solid-phase reactions of the materials. This activity in the construction sector uses a wide range of industrial rocks (aggregates, natural stone, clays, kaolin, etc) as raw materials in its projects. This means that is necessary to carry out R&D studies on these materials in order to improve competitiveness and reduce the environmental impact arising from processes used by companies that deal in the production of raw materials or use them in their products.

Thematic lines of research:

  • Raw materials
  • Industrial petrology of construction elements
  • Extraction, treatment and processing of industrial rocks
  • Rock characterization using non-destructive tests
  • Pathology prevention and prediction in construction materials
  • Characterization of rocks and construction elements
  • Production technology

Important Note

This area will not carry out any activity that could lead to a conflict of interests with the Institute’s work as a Control Body, with regard to the products assessed, in accordance with ENAC requirements laid out in PE-ENAC-OC/01.
