Nanotechnology and NanomaterialsThe general aim of the Nanomaterials Area is to reseaech and develop nanomaterials that can be applied to Construction and Habitat products to provide them with a multifunctional, intelligent and/or sustainable character as added value.
AIDICO encourage the application of nanostrucutural characterisation techniques, nanoindentation techniques, the use of new synthesis processes, the incorporation of nanopartícles and nanofibres as innovative line that enable not only materials having enhanced mechanical and durability features. Carbon nanotubes are one of the most important discoveries that have arisen thanks to nanotechnology and nanoencapsulation systems of compounds of interest that can be used to protect a specific compound from the atmosphere, for multifunctional materials: UV filters, Bactericides, Photoluminescense, Self-cleaning (low surface energy), transparency, anti-estatic properties...
Research Lines
NANOCOMPOSITES USING INTERCALATED ORGANIC CLAYS
Obtaining new nanocomposites having low coefficients of dilation, degradation temperatures as fire retardants in polymeric matrices high durability nanopigments.
DESIGN AND APPLICATION OF NANOSTRUCTURED MATERIALS FOR HYDRAULIC BINDER MATRICES
The incorporation of carbon nanotubes into materials derived from cement is an innovative line which not only enables materials with enhanced mechanical features and durability to be obtained, but also opens up a world of new applications coming from their electromechanical properties.
MULTIFUNCIONAL MATERIALS THROUGH THE INCORPORATION OF NANOPARTICLES
By scaling the size of particles to the nanometric range it has been shown that new properties in the materials are obtained polymer has greater tenacity, elasticity, low surface energy, greaer hardness, chemical resistance to radiation and heat, as well as the inclusion of functional or catalytic groups.
ORGANIC-INORGANIC HYBRID MATERIALS
Several projects are underway to develop new organic/inorganic hybrid materials applied as coatings on materials to be used in construction (stone, ceramic and wood) enabling an exceptional improvement to triboligical properties of the materials, as well as providing new functionalities.
NANOENCAPSULATION AND ANCHORING OF ACTIVE SUBSTANCES
Development of systems for encapsulation and anchoring of active substances which aims to develop a new system of intelligent prevention of concrete corrosion.
NANOSTRUCTURED MATERIALS FOR PHOTOVOLTAIC APPLICATIONS
Study in depth basic knowledge relating to synthesis, preparation and assessment of energy efficiency of new concepts in photovoltaic materials aiming to achieve a global awareness of dye-sensitised solar cell.
AIDICO is coordinator of Network for Application of Nanotechnologies in Materials and Products for Construction and the Habitat (RENAC). For more inforamation visit the website http://www.nano-renac.com
