EHE-08, which came into force on December 1, 2008, states two situations for prefabricated concrete elements:

• Prefabricated elements that must obtain the CE Marking
• Prefabricated elements not subject to CE Marking such as formwork, joints and breeze blocks

Concrete production control

It is compulsory to obtain the CE Marking, thereby complying with the requirements of the UNE EN 206-1 standard for production control. In this case, the manufacturer can voluntarily opt for the certification in product control of prefabricated concrete elements, in accordance with EHE-08. The advantage of this certification is the lowering of the weighting coefficient for concrete - γ, in a long-lasting or temporary situation, from 1.70 to 1.50.

Joist Production Control

In the case of prefabricated materials for formwork that is not yet subject to CE Marking, for instance in the case of joints, authorisation for use must be obtained from the Housing Ministry. The procedure for obtaining the authorisation consists of drawing up the technical specifications in accordance with EHE-08 and the issuing of – by a controlling body – a production control system certificate for manufacturing joists based on EHE-08 requirements and the future harmonized standard for CE Marking - EN 15037-1:2008
